Dear D76 Staff and Families,
As we prepare for the months ahead, Diamond Lake District 76 would like to review our inclement weather procedures to ensure all families are informed in the event school closures or schedule changes become necessary. While we make every effort to keep schools open, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority especially given the unpredictability of Chicago-area weather.
How We Make Weather-Related Decisions
District 76 closely monitors weather advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service (www.weather.gov) and consults with neighboring districts before making any decisions regarding school closures or late starts.
Reasons for School Closures
There are several circumstances that may require us to close one or more school buildings, including:
- Severe weather conditions (snow, ice, extreme cold)
- Power outages
- Heating or water system issues
How Families Will Be Notified
If a closure or delayed start is necessary, families and staff will receive an automated phone call, text message, and email notification by 6:00 a.m. on the affected day.
Notifications will also be posted on the D76 website homepage and all official District 76 social media pages. If schools are closed, all before- and after-school activities including the Innovative Learning program will be canceled.
Planning Ahead
We encourage all families to consider alternative childcare arrangements now, in case of a future emergency closure. Taking time to plan ahead helps ensure a smooth transition should a weather-related schedule change occur.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we navigate another Midwest winter together.
Stay safe, warm, and Sparkle On!
Dr. Erin Knoll
Superintendent of Schools
